Deciding to become an adventure elopement photographer was one of the greatest decisions I have made in my business. Being able to explore new locations and shoot weddings at the same time is a dream come true.
Earlier this month I headed to June Lake in Mammoth. June Lake is a year round resort town 12.5 miles south of Lee Vining (where the 120 which goes through Yosemite National Park meets the 395, which traverses California lengthwise. There’s a big mountain behind June Lake, stones and a beach at the shoreline, and epic views from the June Lake Loop around the lakes. It is a popular spot for fishing, kayaking, hiking, enjoying the fall colors, and other beautiful outdoor activities.
I headed to Mammoth Lake a few short weeks ago for Jess and Nick’s elopement and let me tell you the backdrop was something out of a fairytale. Jess and Nick have a lifelong history of spending time in these mountains: They nurtured their relationship here, got engaged at the lake next to this one, and wanted to say their vows with the family and friends at their side, on the edge of blue of the lake stretching out below the epic, view defining mountains behind them.
With just their immediate families and a few friends in attendance, they said their vows in a sweet little ceremony on the lake under an arch their family made, the sun shining and the sky blue.
After portraits, they celebrated with their guests at Mammoth Rock and Bowl, they have an intimate restaurant upstairs with amazing views that makes for the perfect after-party. We hiked around behind the reception area at sunset for more couple portraits and the sunset did not disappoint. It was the perfect start to their married life together. Congratulations Nick and Jess!
