You’ve decided to get married in the most romantic and intimate way possible—by eloping. Congratulations! I am going to share with you my top 3 tips for planning a perfect elopement. You’re about to embark on an unforgettable journey. Every journey needs a plan and maybe a trail guide (that’s me). The good news is that planning an elopement doesn’t have to be overwhelming or stressful. In fact, it can actually be quite fun! Let’s dive right into how to make your wildest elopement dreams come true.
Step 1: Decide Where You Want Elope
The first step in planning your elopement is deciding the loction. Of my 3 tips to planning your elopement this one is maybe the most important. Choosing the backdrop and location for your big day will be a big decision. A few things to consider: Do you have a special spot that holds special meaning for you both? Or maybe there’s a destination that you’ve always dreamed of visiting together? Think about what type of environment speaks to your style as a couple. Do you prefer the hustle and bustle of a city? Maybe you would you rather escape into nature? Once you decide on the location, start researching national and state parks. Find out what activities are available in the area so that you can plan ahead. Some of our favorite locations are Yosemite, Big Sur and Moab.
Step 2: Choose Your Elopement Date and Time Carefully
Once you know where your elopement will take place, it’s time to choose when! Consider the weather in the area at different times throughout the year. Another thing to think about is tourist season. Peak tourist season will affect the level of privacy and intimacy desired for your elopement day. Weekdays and sunrise work best in places that are highly trafficked.
Step 3: Book Your Elopement Vendors
Now comes the fun part—booking all of those vendors who will make your day truly special! Depending on how big or small your wedding will be, consider hiring a photographer and/or videographer (we do both) who specializes in elopements and understands what makes these weddings unique. Music can also be very important for setting the mood at an intimate wedding!! Finally, if there are any other vendors such as florists or hair and makeup needed for your special day we can refer you to those vendors we love and trust.
As exciting as planning an elopement can be it can also be quite daunting at times – but don’t forget why you chose this special route in the first place! With some careful thought put into choosing a location and vendors plus picking out just the right date and time all while keeping within budget -you’ll have created something truly magical before you know it.
