First Look on your Wedding Day

As your wedding photographer, it is important to me that I am there to guide you and help you. One of the questions couples usually ask me is if they should do a first look. I have shot hundreds of weddings. I love sharing advice with my couples.

A first look is when you and your spouse see each other for the first time before you walk down the aisle. This time is just between you and your significant other – typically no one else is around.

There are so many pros to having a first look. However, it is all up to personal preference and how you imagine your day. Here are some pros about a first look, tell us, would you have a first look in the comments below.

A lot of couples are under the misconception that if they do a first look, it will take away from the special moment of seeing each other for the first time at the altar. Or that if you have a first look, your partner wouldn’t have the same emotional response when they see you coming down the aisle. Both are untrue!

A first look is an intimate and emotional experience. It is just between the two of you. One thing I love about a first look is that I can always see the tension and nerves roll off the couple as they embrace.

More and more couples are opting for the first look. The majority of our weddings opt for a first look. If you decide to go the traditional route and not see each other before, that will ultimately be your decision. To help you make that decision I have outlined some of the pros for you to consider. 

Here are some pros for a first look 

• It gives time to do pictures of the bridal party and family before the wedding ceremony
• It frees up time for the couple to be at the ceremony
• You get to have an intimate moment just the two of you
• It can be very emotional and you get to do it together and not at the ceremony
• If your nervous, it helps ease that!
• You get our tears out before the ceremony
