Shooting Destination Weddings & Elopements

The thing about shooting destination weddings and elopements is that the location is not a backdrop to the day, it is very much apart of the story. And just like every couple is unique, every location is unique. When you put the two together, it captures the couple in a location that represents them at that period of time in their story. When a couple asks me to travel to take photos, I always ask them what the location means to them. Why this location? How does this hold a special place in the story of them? Sometimes it is because the location holds a memory, and sometimes their making new memories there. Perhaps it’s a place they have longed to go together, or it’s personality jives with theirs.

As a photographer, I look to capture the characteristic of the place alongside capturing that special moment for the couple. I love weaving in the details of each location and highlight the specific lighting that each setting provides.

For example, this shoot was at Joshua Tree. Joshua Tree is magical and the natural light that spreads throughout this landscape is lovely, even, and soft. It romanticizes the dessert and highlights it’s stunning beauty.

I adore shooting destination weddings and elopements for this reason. A wedding doesn’t necessarily need to be in a space that is dressed up. For some couples, all you need to the couple, loved ones, and a special place. The location provides the details and the couple can focus on each other while surrounded by the beauty of nature. It’s intimate and special. And I can’t get enough of being a part of these ceremonies. Are you looking for a photographer for your destination or elopement? If so, I’m your gal! I will be there capturing and loving every moment.
